Inspired by the neon-lit streets of Shinjuku, the inaugural release marks Toki’s first-ever global travel retail exclusive.
Tokyo is a city of contrasts; tradition and reinvention, old and new, quiet rituals and electric nights. Now, The House of Suntory, The Founding House of Japanese Whisky, is bringing that spirit to life with Streets of Tokio, a new limited-edition collection from Suntory Whisky Toki™ inspired by the neighborhoods that shape Japanese culture.
Streets of Tokio brings Toki’s vivid world of modern Japan to travelling consumers around the globe. The multi-year Streets of Tokio series begins with a limited-edition bottle, inspired by Shinjuku, the epicenter of Tokyo’s renowned bar culture, where neon-lit streets and intimate alleyways capture the dynamic pulse of the city after dark.
Designed in collaboration with Tokyo-based photographer Massa Uemura and inspired by vintage film aesthetics, the bottle photography and label creates a deliberate interplay between heritage and modernity, mirroring Toki’s own identity, where old meets new Japan. Massa works with colour, energy and contemporary edge to reflect a spirit that is vibrant, playful and effortlessly social.
“Streets of Tokio is our love letter to the energy and individuality of Tokyo,” said Vanessa Widmann, Managing Director, Global Travel Retail at Suntory Global Spirits. “As Toki’s first-ever travel retail exclusive, it brings together everything that makes this channel so exciting: discovery, creativity and the opportunity to introduce travellers from around the world to our brand in new ways. Through Streets of Tokio, we’re inviting them to experience a different side of Tokyo – its streets, nightlife and creative culture – through the distinctive lens of Toki.”
At the heart of Streets of Tokio is the distinctive character of Toki, a vivid blend crafted from whiskies from Suntory’s three renowned distilleries across Japan – Hakushu, Yamazaki and Chita. Toki is modern and refined, with a subtly sweet and spicy finish. It is clear gold in color, with basil, green apple and honey on the nose; grapefruit, green grapes, peppermint and thyme on the palate; and a finish of vanilla oak, white pepper and ginger. It is a whisky that reflects the balance of Japanese craftsmanship: precise yet expressive, rooted in tradition while perfectly at home in the modern world.
That sense of balance comes to life in Toki’s signature Japanese Highball, a simple, sophisticated combination of whisky, soda and ice. Designed to let the character of the whisky shine through, the serve brings a lightness and freshness to Toki, making it an ideal companion to the energy and spontaneity of Tokyo after dark. Fill a highball glass with ice and stir to chill, add a measure of Toki and stir again before topping with soda water and finishing with a grapefruit peel. Crisp, refreshing and effortlessly elegant, the Toki Highball is a distinctly Japanese way to enjoy whisky, made for enjoyment everywhere.
The launch marks the beginning of a multi-year journey through modern Tokyo for the Toki brand. Future editions will spotlight the neighborhoods and creative communities that give the city its unmistakable character across Tokyo-style streetwear, vinyl listening bar culture, and culinary discovery.
The launch will leverage airports as a global stage to immerse travellers in Toki’s brand world during moments of heightened gifting and discovery. The first Streets of Tokio travel retail-exclusive will be available in Hong Kong, Delhi, Mumbai, Taiwan, South Korea, Dubai, Sydney, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Brazil, London and Paris, supported by immersive in-store displays, including high-impact merchandising units, product displays and collection photography.
The Streets of Tokio is available in a one-litre format, priced at RRSP $50.
